Trainee Manager – Three Year Development Programme
Join a structured three year trainee manager programme with Jacob's Bagels. You will split your time between the bakery in Pulborough and our Worthing shop. You will learn every stage of the business and prepare for a future manager role.
About Jacob's Bagels
Jacob's Bagels is an independent business that bakes organic, hand shaped bagels, using traditional methods and solar powered ovens. We value early mornings, simple honest food and pride in work. We are growing and plan new shops in the future.
The trainee manager role
This role suits someone who wants a long term future in food and hospitality, and who wants to grow with a small but ambitious business. You will learn both sides of the business – bakery production and shop operations.
What you will learn in the bakery
- Mixing, shaping, boiling and baking our organic bagels
- Running a full bakery day from first arrival to final clean down
- Planning daily and weekly production levels
- Ordering flour and ingredients and checking deliveries
- Working to agreed standards for quality and consistency
- Food safety, cleaning routines and good record keeping
What you will learn in the shop
- Serving customers in a friendly and confident way
- Preparing filled bagels to a set standard under time pressure
- Managing stock levels in the shop and reducing waste
- Supporting daily opening and closing routines
- Leading by example on the shop floor
- Giving clear direction to team members
- Reading sales figures and taking pride in strong results
How the three year programme works
- Year 1 – Learn core bakery skills and core shop skills
- Year 2 – Take on more responsibility for shifts and small projects
- Year 3 – Lead shifts, support new starters and prepare for a manager role
You will work a mix of bakery shifts and shop shifts, including early mornings and some weekends. We will agree the pattern with you and review it as you progress.

Working standards
Jacob's Bagels runs as a non smoking and non vaping workplace, including breaks during shifts and near our shops and bakery.
Location and travel
You will spend time at both our Pulborough bakery and our Worthing shop. You need reliable travel to both locations and a practical approach to early starts.
